HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet is a man of peace. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his nonviolent struggle for the liberation of Tibet and has consistently advocated for nonviolence, even in the face of extreme aggression. He also became the first Nobel Laureate to be recognized for his concern for global environmental problems.

His Holiness states that his life is guided by three major commitments: the promotion of basic human values or secular ethics in the interest of human happiness; the fostering of inter-religious harmony; and the welfare of the Tibetan people.

Having travelled around the globe to meet with leaders of many nations as well as with heads of different religions and well-known scientists, His Holiness the Dalai Lama brings with him a message of peace, nonviolence, inter-religious understanding, universal responsibility and compassion. Author of more than 72 books and recipient of many international awards and honorary doctorates, His Holiness describes himself as a simple Buddhist monk.

In The Dalai Lama's Own Words

  • Because we all share this planet earth, we have to learn to live in harmony and peace with each other and with nature. This is not just a dream, but a necessity.
  • I defeat my enemies when I make them my friends.
  • Peace does not mean an absence of conflicts; differences will always be there. Peace means solving these differences through peaceful means; through dialogue, education, knowledge, and through humane ways.
